Omega Pedal Vs. Rock Pedal,
A Rock Band Pedal Comparison:
In the above video, I compare the Omega Pedal with my product, The Rock Pedal. Now, I know coming from the owner of the Rock Pedal, that I am not to be trusted :) That's why I kept this video to the facts. Verifiable facts.
Some people won't want to watch a 10-minute video, so I'll recap it here briefly:
The Pedal
The Omega pedal uses a Pearl 120p. The Rock Pedal uses a Pulse single kick pedal. Of course, the Pearl name/brand is more famous than Pulse. But if you do a quick Google search, you'll find that the Pulse pedal is a very well-respected brand. Also, you can find the Pearl 120p for as low as $53 on the net, while the Pulse rarely sells for less than $60. Not only that but the Pulse pedal we utilize has a double chain, not a single like the Omega Pedal, not to mention the Velcro and carpet screws and the key holder that we offer
The two pedals do have completely different sensors. The Rock Pedal uses a magnetic switch much like the Rock Band pedal. Nothing mechanical. We actually custom designed this switch for Rock Pedal and manufacture it in our own warehouse. It is placed in hard protective casing and then professionally installed on the pedal. The Omega Pedal uses a mechanical switch that is taped to the side post of the pedal. I have read reports that the sensor moves and needs adjusting. Also, the beater is required on the Omega Pedal...where as on the Rock Pedal, you just play the pedal right out of the box--just like the stock Rock Band pedal. Of course, if you want to use the beater, you can (you would need a practice pad though).
Payment Options
The Omega Pedal website offers PayPal as their only payment method. You can buy a Rock Pedal with PayPal, Google Checkout, or your normal credit card. We also accept checks and money orders and direct money transfers. Please email support@rockpedal.com if you would like to arrange payment via check, money order, or money tranfer. In Omega Pedal's defense, we don't have that advertised on our website, so they might be very willing to accomodate their customers just like I am.
Warranty
Now, I really think this is a clear cut victory for the Rock Pedal over the Omega Pedal. Each Omega Pedal comes with a "90-day parts and labor warranty against defects and materials or workmanship." I don't know what that means. For all I know, they might be real stand up folks, and really stand behind their product. Or maybe not. It's hard to tell from the vagueness on their website.
What I can tell you is this: Rock Pedal comes with a 12-month unlimited warranty. No matter what, you will have a working Rock Pedal under your foot for an entire year. If a part breaks or wears down, we'll send you a new right away. If you don't want to fix it yourself, we'll send you a pre-paid shipping label, you can send it to us, we'll fix it, and get it right back to you. During that year, you'll never be asked or required to pay us one penny for anything. No deductibles. No service charges. No shipping fees. Nothing.
Money Back Guarantee
I see no evidence from the Omega Pedal's website that they offer a money back guarantee in any way, shape, or form. With the Rock Pedal, you get the "30-Day Test Stomp". You can try the pedal for 30 days. If you don't like it for any reason, just return it to us for a full and instant refund. Of course, you'll get the money you paid for the pedal back, but we'll also offer you $13 in shipping money!
Support
I just went to the Omega Pedal website. They have an email and no phone number. They have no documentation or videos or anything to help you with your pedal (support). If you go to the Rock Pedal website, you'll see an 800 number that you can call to talk to a real person or an email you can write to anytime. We also have many videos on the website helping you with any problem you might have. If you need some additonal help, I'll do whatever I can to get it straightened out. I have one goal and that's to make sure that nobody out there has a bad taste in their mouth regarding my pedal or my company. I just do whatever I can do avoid that...fixing problems, going out of our way--that's just how we roll here at Rock Pedal!
I just did a quick Google search for "omega pedal support" and other than their website, there's really not that much. I also just did a quick Google search for "rock pedal support". After you get past my website, you'll find tons of forum threads and official reviews praising Rock Pedal support and customer service. I'm not saying that to toot my own horn, I'm just trying to make it very clear that I'm 100% dedicated to making sure you are happy with your new Rock Band pedal.
Professional Reviews
ArsTechnica.com did a review of the Rock Pedal. They specficially compared us the Omega Pedal: "I like the Rock Pedal better than the stock ION pedal and the standard pedal, and it's just as high-quality as the Omega Pedal, with a few nice tweaks that make it a little more convenient than the Omega. If anything, the Omega pedal is a hack that makes a real drum pedal work with Rock Band, while the Rock Pedal is a peripheral built from the ground up to be a kick-ass gaming peripheral. Based on my time with both products and design, my bet would be the Rock Pedal lasts longer under heavy use."
And IGN.com, a very famous video game website had this to say when comparing the Omega Pedal (and the Destroyer Pedal) to the Rock Pedal: "I was also impressed with the design of the electronic switch on the pedal. Unlike the competing Omega and Destroyer pedals, which are also a combination of a real kick pedal and a sensor switch, all of the electronics in the Rock Pedal are housed internally in the pedal and surrounded by a metal housing. While the Omega and Destroyer pedals have the electronics either bolted, tied, or literally taped on, giving away that they are simply modifications of an existing kick pedal, the Rock Pedal has a seamless, professional look. There is also no actual contact to make to trigger the proximity switch, so you don't have to worry about anything wearing down because of impact or friction."
Then there's Cena. Cena has reviewed every pedal on the market. And every pedal has a video of Cena praising their pedal on their websites. But the video below is an excerpt from the latest video comparison that Cena has done. When this video was made, all pedals were out, and Cena had tried them all:
